Thermocouple Extension Wire - G9 series
Bookmark this page!
This page contains several tables showing the available thermocouple extension wire, as well as the insulation characteristics, thermocouple accuracies, and the ANSI standard color codes.
Table 1 - Insulated thermocouple extension wire for thermocouple types C, E, T and K - Part numbers and price
Table 2 - Insulated thermocouple extension wire for thermocouple types N, R, S and T - Part numbers and price
Table 3 - Thermocouple & RTD ranges and accuracies
Table 4 - ANSI color codes for thermocouples
Thermocouple extension wire should be used to connect thermocouples to all measurement & control instruments. Only when using a temperature transmitter, which converts the thermocouple signal to a 4-20mA signal, should standard copper alloy wire be used, and only after the thermocouple has been connected to the transmitter using thermocouple wire.
Typically, thermocouple extension wire used with base metal thermocouples (E, J, K, N and T) is essentially the same alloy as are the thermocouples. However due to the high cost of certain thermocouple wire such as Platinum and Tungsten (types B, C, D, R, and S), a special extension wire is used for these types of thermocouples. The "X" in the ANSI code denotes extension grade wire.
