BACKGROUND
In
the food processing and drug manufacturing indus- tries, the
temperature of the material flowing through the pipelines
during various stages of the process is often necessary. The
temperature sensor must measure this temperature without disturbing
the flow. Also the temperature sensor must not penetrate through
the wall of the pipeline as this could be difficult to clean
and could trap small amounts of material which could contaminate
subsequent process runs. NANMAC's line of Flow-thru thermocouples
have been modified to meet these stringent requirements. Short
sections of pipes of various diameters have been modified
to measure these temperatures. These modifications consist
of machining a flat surface on the exterior of the pipes such
that a thin diaphragm of 0.015" thickness remains in
the wall of the pipe. A NANMAC "Right Angle" thermocouple
with ribbon elements is then installed such that the thermal
junction makes intimate thermal contact with the backside
of the thin diaphragm. This unique ribbon thermocouple measures
the backside surface temperature of the thin steel diaphragm
without creating any errors caused by conduction along the
stem of the sensor. All
assemblies come with a set of Buna N Gaskets for use on both
ports. Spare gaskets and gaskets made from other materials
are available - call factory.
