Mixer temperature sensors use either the NANMAC Right-Angle Ribbon Thermocouple sensor, or a Pt-100 Ohm RTD.

Hot water or steam-jacketed mixers usually control the temperature by measuring and controlling the hot water or steam flowing in the double-jacketed walls of the mixer. In order to accurately measure the mix temperature, the sensor when installed through the double wall must meet the following conditions:

  • It must be flush with the inside surface of the inner wall and not protrude into the mix.
  • It must not create any conduction errors by its very existence.
  • It must have fast response.
  • It must be leak-tight.

NANMAC'S exclusive Mixer Thermocouples meet all of these criteria; utilizing ribbon thermocouple elements, or Pt-100 RTD elements you can now measure the true mix item temperatures inside your water or steam-jacketed mixers and blenders.

All Pt-100 RTD devices are of sanitary design as the sensor is separated from the material within the mixer by a 0.015 inch thick stainless steel diaphragm designed into the sensor. Thermocouples requiring sanitary design are also available by adding the diaphragm to the thermocouple device, contact the factory for more information.

The Model MDA thermocouple is a one-piece stainless steel housing designed for external (from outside in) type installation using the supplied stainless steel gland nut. In this design, the ribbon thermocouple is exposed to the mix item. Must use model MDA-SS for RTD sensors.

The Model MCR thermocouple also has an exposed, flush mounted ribbon thermocouple on its conical sensing tip. The one-piece stainless steel thermocouple housing is designed for internal (from inside out) type installation secured with lock washers & jam nut, spacer not included. Must use model MCR-SS for RTD sensors.

The Model MDA-SS Sanitary Design has a stainless steel diaphragm on its conical sensing tip. The SS diaphragm encloses the ribbon thermocouple or RTD and thus this becomes a 100% sanitary and contamination free temperature sensor. The thermocouple ribbon element is electrically grounded to the SS diaphragm. (Electrically insulated models are available on special request).

The Model MCR-SS Sanitary Design has a stainless steel diaphragm on its conical sensing tip similar to model C10-MDA-SS above.

The sensor housing is made from 316 stainless steel, as are the available dummy plugs and mounting receptacles. All units are furnished with appropriate jam nuts, lock washers or gland nuts and 3 feet of Teflon insulated extension leads. A Teflon seal is required when using a NANMAC supplied mounting receptacle; it is highly recommended that it is used for all installations.

Standard units are Suitable for use to 2000 PSI at temperatures to 400°F, Sanitary units are suitable for use to 500 PSI at 400°F. All units are available in thermocouple types J, K, T, and E. RTD's can only be ordered in the Sanitary design. Teflon Conical Seal must be ordered separately

Dummy plugs are available to plug up the Thermocouple hole when the sensor is removed or not in use.

Mounting Hardware, spacers and Teflon seals can be ordered separately.
